Quality Golf Destinations, in conjunction with Richard Ellis, recently hosted an academy week at the prestigious Valle Del Este Golf Resort in Almeria, Spain.
Richard regularly organises academy weeks during the winter months in Southern Europe and occasionally in South-East Asia.
Students were coached in all aspects of the game over the seven day duration and as well as playing the resorts challenging championship course, many students took the opportunity to visit the immaculate Desert Springs Resort Indiana golf course located close by in the village of Palomares.
Each day the golfers were split into small groups for golf lessons in the morning or afternoons allowing maximum attention to each student, as well as plenty of time for playing the course and relaxation in the hotels spa, around 10 hours of golf lessons were included in the academy as well as five rounds of golf.
Accommodation at the 4* hotel was on a half board basis and the complex’s English pub the ‘Hole In One’ situated overlooking the first tee and the practice facilities became a regular evening meeting venue for many of the students and teachers alike.
Valle DelEste is blessed with one of the driest climates in Europe and the region has on average 312 sunny days a year. This average was not affected on our stay at the resort with beautiful blue skies and a daily high temperature in the region of 16-20 C.
A jumper was needed early in the morning and late afternoons but for February the weather was perfect and compared to the UK it felt more like high summer. The excellent weather combined with February being one of the quietest times of the year at the golf resort made it a perfect time to stage this academy.
Flights into the area are best to either Almeria or Murcia airports both are around a 45-60 minute transfer time to the resort, alternatively Alicante is a two hour transfer but has the flexibility of daily flights from most areas of the UK in the Spanish golf season.
